Loyal Readers: My most sincere apologies that there has been little action on The Singapore Fling these past few months. Jeff and I have been slightly tied up moving halfway across the world, finding a new home, starting new jobs, etc. etc. etc. – more to come on that front in a later post. And, not to worry faithful followers– The Singapore Fling will most certainly have a European counterpart that will hopefully keep you equally as entertained.
In the meantime, I’m determined to document each and every one of our Asian travels and send The Singapore Fling off in style. Picking up where I left off, it seems I’m due to recap a long-weekend jaunt to Langkawi, Malaysia with our friends, Scott and Zanelle.
I struggled to craft a story line for a post for this trip as, in my opinion, there is nothing too exceptional about this beautiful, but somewhat quiet little nook of Malaysia. We stayed in a decent, but not notable Westin. We ate mainly delicious hawker food from restaurants that likely don’t have addresses. And, aside from a boys’ outing to golf, we hardly left the resort. So as I marinated in my writer’s block, I turned to Jeff and said, ‘I really just want to write about Zanelle.’
Well, that’s pretty creepy. But the truth is, on both of my trips to Langkawi (you may recall Langkawi also played host to a boozy yoga retreat in 2013) the people I’ve been with and the deepened friendships that I took with me on the outbound flight are the real highlight. Langkawi may be a snoozy island that is want for some attractions, but it’s plentiful in cheap beer and a vibe that makes you think, ‘we’ve got no place we have to be’. And it’s that combo that makes Langkawi the perfect locale for friendships to grow richer.
Here are some outtakes from our first getaway with some of our dearest friends from Singapore. Even though we now no longer live 12 floors above them, I’m hopeful we can continue to meet in places that similarly allow let the friendship to just flow. Next stop, Adelaide 2016 for their nuptials!
